"Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away (NZ) there was a phone call made from across the ditch to Deb. It was late June 2006 and this Kiwi lad from Auckland was on his way over to Melbourne to live the very next day with, nowhere to stay. The rest I guess is history!! {;o)
To give you a bit of my background I have been dancing on and off for about 10 years, mainly more off than on. I used to dance at Le Bop NZ under the fabulous Paul & Dana Tanuvasa as well as another form of modern Jive. It was from about 2002 that I actually started to get a little more serious in my dancing. I entered my first competition with the goal to improve my dancing and have entered at least one comp almost every year since then. I was still rather sporadic up until moving to Melbourne actually. I'd turn up a couple of months before a comp, find a willing victim (dance partner) train hard out then after the comps were over fade away again. Only making an occasional appearance social dancing when my withdrawal symptoms got unbearable!
To do the timewarp a little.. "Its just a jump to the left...." in 2005 I was in Melbourne for business and on Paul & Dana's advice I turned up at The Space for the first time to give their love to Deb & Ariel as well as the newly arrived Charli. (Dana was jealous that I got to see Charli first!!) :o) I was immediately taken by the welcoming family that is Le Bop! That night they invited me to THE Ball after only just meeting the crew! So as you can imagine it was only natural that when I made the decision to move here to touch base once again. (the entire decision process to move took less time than it did to scratch my head to think yes or no!)
Since coming to Melbourne I have danced more than all the years I have been dancing put together. Not that I am biased but the atmosphere, friendliness and the people that work and play here make all the difference. Deb turned me from the Dark Side while training me up in Jan of 2007 on how to speak and correctly name the moves in 'stralian. I still think it should be a Manhattan not Latin Walks Deb!!
Personally, I love teaching all levels of dancers and especially love watching first timers step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves dancing and actually having fun doing it! Believe it or not I am actually an IT geek! Outside of dancing (its the real world I am told!) I am a consultant on SAP systems. I also used to teach the Korean martial art TaeKwon-Do which I was involved with for 23 years and I had my own school back in Auckland but now Le Bop is my passion. {:o)
So, if you see me standing in between dances on the side of the dance floor, please do not be shy and come over to ask me for a dance!" |
