Cranbourne Newsletter July 2006

Hi Cranbourne le boppers!

There are so many exciting things about to happen at Le Bop that we thought it was time to send you an update with all the information you will need to prepare for our LE BOP DISCO FEVER BIRTHDAY BALL in September.

DISCO FEVER BIRTHDAY BALLchris n laura circus ball.jpg
It is a tradition at Le Bop to have a massive birthday party to celebrate how long we’ve been teaching classes in Melbourne.  Each year the ball has a theme and EVERYONE comes in costume to watch some fantastic dancing and to dance the night away.  Some previous themes have included Circus (see picture to the right) and Medieval (see picture below).  This year the ball is being held on Saturday, September 9th at the Brighton Town Hall.  It is $38 which is great value and includes a drink on arrival, some very yummy dessert and entertainment throughout the night.  Josh Abrahams will be our DJ (do you remember the song “Addicted to Bass?” – that’s him) which is sure to keep us on the dance floor all night long.  It doesn’t matter how long you have been dancing, if you are keen to see some great dancers in action and meet great people from other venues then grab some friends and bring your hotpants along for a fun night.  Tickets for the ball can be purchased at classes in Cranbourne or by calling the Space on 9529 3949.

MENTOR ROUTINE
The Mentor Routine is becoming a part of the Le Bop Ball tradition and we would like to invite you to help us create the grandest most fun team routine at Le Bop.  A number of chosen “Mentors” will dance with you to assist your learning and performing the routine.  Everyone is invited to participate no matter how many previous Le Bop classes you have done.  Participating in a routine is a great way to learn and remember lots of beginner moves that you will be able to use while freestyling.

The routine will be taught during beginner classes for 5 weeks starting on Thursday July 27th and concluding on Thursday August 24th.  If you miss your regular class you will have the opportunity to learn that section of the routine at any of the other Le Bop classes during that week (Prahran, Ashburton or Fitzroy).  The routine will then be performed en masse at the Le Bop Birthday Ball on September 9th 2006!  Register your interest during classes so that we are able to pair you up with a Mentor.

“SHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING” BALL ROUTINE
As well as the Mentor Routine, we also have a special Ball Routine that will involve all the Le Bop venues around Melbourne.  Laura Serong has choreographed some intermediate/advanced moves to be performed at the ball to represent the Cranbourne le boppers in a big disco fever medley.  The routine is open to everyone and we are looking for several pairs of dancers to participate in what is sure to be a highly entertaining routine.  The routine will provide some higher level moves for those who are looking for a challenge, and will be taught over three consecutive weeks at the Space in Prahran from 10am-12noon starting on Saturday August 5th and concluding on Saturday August 19th.  There will also be two further rehearsals on Saturday August 26th and Friday September 8th.  The cost of the routine will be $80 (plus costume).  Please see Laura during classes for more information and to register your interest, or visit www.lebop.com.au.

"TEASE ME, MONY”
ROCKS SYDNEY
Speaking of successful team routines, we are very pleased to report that our very own “Tease me, Mony” team routine traveled up to Sydney over the Queen’s Birthday weekend to strut their stuff in competition once again.  Unfortunately, Kjell Schwab was not able to participate this time around so Simon McCarthy very graciously stepped in and performed with us so that all four couples were able to participate.  The team performed better than ever before and although missing out on a final placing, received many compliments on the standard of their dancing and their group cohesion.  A very big thankyou and congratulations goes out to all who participated – you really helped to put Le Bop Cranbourne on the map!

We look forward to dancing with you all in class soon!

Chris and Laura Serong
